Basalt wear-resistant linings from Abresist Corporation, Urbana, IN, provide protection for all types of hydraulic and pneumatic conveying lines. The linings were especially effective in preventing abrasion in a cyclone used in the cement industry. Since the time of Archimedes screw elevators have been used for pumping water. Solids entrained by wastewater are a heavy burden for screw conveyors and troughs. The abrasion increases the annular gap until the conveying capacity of the screw conveyor reaches almost zero. The installation of Abresist basalt lining prevented the abrasion. Abresist basalt linings accommodate the bending typical of long conveying screws. During installation corrugated wire mesh is fastened to the steel surface to provide reliable attachment to the cyclone. In installations where temperatures reach above approximately 250C/482 F the use of potassium silicate based mortar for installation is required. Abresist basalt linings are used in hydraulic and pneumatic conveying lines, like bottom and fly ash. The wear-resistant linings handle many types of abrasive products, including coal, cement, sand and harsh, granular chemicals among others. Abresist basalt linings eliminate the need for repairs, maintenance and downtime, resulting in longer service life.
