As a family-owned company named Excelsior Iron Works, we rose from a humble beginning in Seattle, Washington, in 1880. The Leach family produced sash weights and wood burning stoves. The depression forced a change, and the foundry moved to Los Angeles in 1938 to make grinding balls and mill liners for the mining industry. We became the first licensed producer of abrasion resistant Ni-Hard in the Western States.
